Target markets / applications

The ESS production system was designed to cover both types of panelized construction companies:

Site-built construction

Site-built construction, including drywall

In this world, the panels coming out of the factory get installed into a field-constructed building. In a typical application the ground-level floor is poured concrete, and the building goes up from there.

For this, the ESS production system can supply CFS-only panels (interior / exterior walls, structural and non-structural/drywall) and/or panels that also include Paco or full HSS posts and beams.

Adding the heavy-steel frame elements lets you build taller, stronger buildings while maintaining the advantages of factory-built, high accuracy and efficiency panels. Concrete floors above ground-level are usually poured using pour-stops (integrated into the panels) and deck pans.

Pods & modular

Modular construction, including pods and tiny homes

In modular or pod-based constructions, the panels coming out of production stay within the factory and get assembled into a frame for the module. A working definition would be that a module is free-standing and can handle structural loads, whereas a pod is a unit that is assembled into a building (think bathroom-pods) and relies on the building for structural aspects. The pod has just enough wall-strength to support the trim & fixtures.

Within the ESS production system, the panels for pods / modules are handled essentially the same as panels for field-construction but are grouped and scheduled together to become the module. The system then has a second set of scheduling, materials tracking etc to handle the completion of the module
